RESUMEN
En el año de su consulado Cicerón tuvo que hacer frente a un intento de golpe de Estado por parte de Catilina, contra quien fue decretado el “senatus consultum ultimum”. El artículo se centra en el debate entre optimates y populares sobre la legalidad de esta providencia y el papel desempeñado por Cicerón a lo largo de esa crisis.
