AN EXAMPLE OF INDIRECT RECEPTION OF RHODIAN-ROMAN MARITIME LEGAL PRINCIPLES IN THE LATIN AMERICA AT THE END OF THE 18TH CENTURY

RESUMEN         

          
          El artículo tiene por objeto efectuar un breve comentario de las Ordenanzas del Consulado de Bilbao de 1737. Las Ordenanzas bilbaínas constituyeron derecho supletorio en la resolución de las disputas de los Consulados que fueron creándose en algunas ciudades latinoamericanas a finales del siglo XVIII. Ello hizo posible que costumbres jurídicas inicialmente rodio-romanas, recibidas en el derecho castellano y practicadas a lo largo de toda la Edad Media en el ámbito Atlántico fueran aplicadas en los Consulados de Latinoamérica.

ABSTRACT                

          
                  This paper aims to make a comment of the Ordinances of the Consulate of Bilbao of 1737. Bilbao's Ordinances were supplementary law for the resolution of disputes of the Consulates that were established in some Latin American cities by the end of the 18th century. This made it possible that legal customs, initially rhodian-romans, received in the spanish maritime practiced law during all the Middle Ages in the Atlantic area were applied in Latin American's Consulates.
