MARRIAGE AS A STRATEGY IN POLITICS DURING THE LAST PERIOD OF THE REPUBLIC

RESUMEN         

En el último siglo de la República el matrimonio se convirtió en un poderoso instrumento para alcanzar el poder político o mantenerse entre la élite gobernante. Además de la importancia del matrimonio desde un punto de vista socio-político más que jurídico, el estudio se centra en las alianzas político-familiares celebradas por personajes claves de este período como César, Pompeyo, Cicerón y Marco Antonio.

 

ABSTRACT               

            During the last century of the Republic, marriage became a powerful instrument for achieving political power or remaining among the governing elite. In addition to the importance of marriage from the sociopolitical standpoint more than the legal standpoint, this article focuses on the political and family alliances forged by key figures during this period such as Caesar, Pompey, Cicero and Mark Antony.
